Day 1 for these things are always great! Fill the tank with enthusiasm and tell yourself it’ll be a piece of cake. I managed to get a few donations by spreading the word and I made a joke about Mocktails for an upcoming friend’s housewarming party (socially distanced of course).
As I mention that I’m doing it, my work colleague tells me she has been alcohol free for 7 months and it feels great. I contemplate this as if I won’t somehow be clawing for the bottle by week 4. Optimism is a great illusion lol.
Afte work, I pop to my neighbour’s for dinner. We usually have a G&T or wine. I simply drink tonic water on it’s own. I’m noticing how fast I go through these. Is this what I’m like when I drink? Maybe I should learn to slow down… I finish the night and I don’t feel dizzy. This time, I managed to even do the dishes!

I wake up feeling better than usual but it’s early days. I don’t think the detox has begun yet. Okay, time to log into work.
Okay so the day ends and I think about knocking back that scotch again. I’ve got life drawing tonight. I don’t smoke so I’m going to need something to replace the wine i use to relax my creative mind. Perhaps I’ll try tea.
I didn’t drink tea. Instead I drank water and burnt incense and it worked beautifully.
Friday 3rd July 2020
Thank god it’s Friday right? Today will be interesting. The day should go fine but I usually attend Friday work drinks. Perhaps I’ll attempt online Zoom training again since it’s a lot healthier than drinking alcohol.
With no wrestling due to COVID-19, I need to get back into it somehow. My mental and physical health needs to get back on track sometime! No time like the present…
So as Friday comes to an end I’m not that worried to miss Friday drinks. I’ll be training on Zoom instead!

Okay it’s the weekend and I have a housewarming to go to tonight. The good news is that we are all artists and because of COVID-19 the guests will be limited. I’ll make some Shirley Temples to be cute.
I had a great night. I gotta say it actually felt good not to drink. Here’s a pic of my mocktail.

Enjoying a relaxing day of doing nothing. This time I’m not contending with a hangover but I’ve realised something. Some of this is just me. I enjoy being lazy and slovenly at times. That has nothing to do with alcohol but at least when I decide to clean up and do something now, I wont be too fatigued or hungover to do so. Last night was great btw. Turns out Shirley Temples almost taste like a real cocktail. I mean, it almost tasted like a cruiser.
Monday 6th July 2020
Monday was pretty straightforward to be honest. I’m about to enjoy some non-alcoholic beers. I didn’t know there was such a thing in Australia.

And so the first week comes to an end! Give me strength for week 2. I’ll keep you posted two weeks from now.
